About the Maison

Maison de Philippe is the contemporary editorial and cultural world surrounding the revival of Philippe Salvet, a historic French fashion name associated with the development of ready-to-wear on the Côte d’Azur.

The original Philippe Salvet was a French fashion figure whose work was associated with Paris, Nice and Saint-Tropez during the mid-to-late twentieth century. He is deceased. A garment of his, dated to about 1972, is held by the Palais Galliera in Paris, and recorded interviews with him are held by the Archives départementales des Alpes-Maritimes. That documented history is set out in The Original House.

Today the name is being revived, with a commitment to the spirit of its French origins and a contemporary identity grounded in tailoring, craftsmanship, natural materials and considered design. The revival is new work. It is not the original house operating without interruption, and the Maison does not describe it as such.

The Maison is the broader editorial expression of that revival. It explores the architecture, people, destinations, objects, experiences and traditions that inform the contemporary house: independent watchmakers and traditional tailoring ateliers, modernist architecture, considered destinations, and the engineering behind well-made machines. Subjects are selected for their substance rather than their visibility.

Philippe Salvet represents the clothing and the collections. Maison de Philippe represents the cultural world surrounding the house. The two share a creative philosophy and serve different purposes.

Norway

Nordic craft, maritime heritage, restrained architecture, industrial design, natural landscapes, and technical ingenuity.

Switzerland

Alpine culture, watchmaking, engineering, tailoring, precision, traditional hospitality, and architectural restraint.

Napa Valley

Northern California architectural modernism, craftsmanship, agricultural heritage, gastronomy, wine-country landscapes, and relaxed domestic life.

The editorial philosophy is a single standard, applied to every entry: would we return, would we wear it again, would we keep it for a decade. Subjects are chosen for substance rather than visibility, written about with specific detail, and revisited rather than replaced. The commitment is long-term: to craftsmanship, to thoughtful design, and to a smaller number of substantial pages over a larger number of slight ones.

Philippe Salvet, the fashion house, is introduced in The Atelier and in The Original House, where the distinction between the original house and the contemporary revival is set out in full.

Editorial policy and disclosure

How the Maison works

Editorial policy. Coverage is chosen on editorial merit. Factual reporting is distinguished from commentary, sources are primary where practical, and publication and update dates are shown on articles.

Disclosure. Maison de Philippe is the editorial world connected to the revival of Philippe Salvet. Articles about the fashion house identify that relationship. Sponsored content, affiliate relationships, gifted products and commercial partnerships are identified where they apply.

Corrections. Errors are corrected on the page where they appeared, with the correction noted. Write to the Maison through The Letter in the first instance.

Legal pages (Privacy, Terms, Cookies) will carry the verified details of the company operating the Maison. Those details are being confirmed by the owner and are not stated here until they are.
